![]() Blues $13.98 As butchered as this Alan Douglas Frankenstein Monster is, it still ranks as one of the greatest collections of American Rock Blues. Alan Douglas cut and pasted many of the takes together to form unreal, unnatural tunes that exist only as freakish oddities. But, the parts and pieces that Idiot Douglas had at his disposal are so outrageously fantastic that the Creatures Alan managed to assemble give little clue as to what abominations they may be. What I'm saying is, is that Hendrix's playing is so phenomenal on these various takes that it completely overshadows A-Hole Alan's silly tamperings. If the Intro to "Electric Church" is from a show the previous week, who cares; Jimi would be saying something just as wild and clever the next week, and the next. And if the drums are tweaked here or bass boosted too much there, that's probably something Jimi might possibly would have done himself, 'cause he was always re-eq-ing and remixing. The point of this collection is to highlight Jimi's Blues Talent, and it does so exceptionally well. His modernized, electrified, psychadelicized version of the Blues, that is. "Born Under A Bad Sign" is a towering monument to Jimi's genius. It's not 1930s Robert Johnson plucking on a worn wooden box, its post Nuclear Super Rock Star showmanship. American Men had landed on the Moon and Jimi was using this remarkable vantage point to say something about his country, and world. You know, the old phrase "They can put a man on the moon, but they can't..." They can't get past racism, inequality, injustice, violence, war, greed, jealousy, etc... Its all in his music if you care to hear it, and its in these songs in spades. ![]() Electric Ladyland $13.98 A great way to celebrate Woodstock with a CD that went wonkie after one track. I've noted this supplier; never again. I had to rate this 1 star to comply with sending this review. Zip. ![]() Are You Experienced $13.98 If you were on a deserted Island and you could only pick 10 cd's to have, this would be one of the ten. Man this is some awesome music. |
