![]() Servants of Twilight [VHS] $9.99 movie very bloody. didn't even really start out like the book. book much better. It started out that the mother & the boy were in the parking lot of Bullocks South Coast Plaza when the evil woman came up to them. At the very time I was reading the book, I was sitting in the parking lot of Bullocks south coast plaza. I worked there & was at lunch sitting in my car. Was VERY creepy. Movie ok. But book way better. ![]() Volcano $2.99 Anne Heche almost single-handly ruins this movie with her horrible over acting. Tom Lee Jones shows his one dimensional acting style and the rest of the cast submits mediocre performances as well. About the only thing done well was the lava, and I was rooting for it envelope Anne Heche and Tom Lee Jones in a fiery death. Unfortunately, they survive. This movie also trys to force a "we are the world" kind of theme, but showing how confronting lava can *gasp* bring people together in the force of adversity. A contrived plot device that could have definitely been left out. I think Dante's Peak captured a more realistic tone - when the eruption comes its pretty much everyone for themselves! If you do watch this movie, just watch it to root for the lava to destroy LA. ![]() Lost & Found $1.48 When this CD first came out, there was a lot of effort from the record company to get it advertised. With all the things they said about it, I thought it would be really good. So, I sent away for one of the free copies they advertised. I wasn't impressed at all. Frankly, the lyrics didn't make much sense, and the ones that did make sense weren't anything special. I mean "beautiful boy you are the one, you are the one that makes my life fun" isn't all that exciting. The songs weren't very good and all the things that the record company said about her were terribly stretched. Not only are the songs average (or sometimes below) but Jillian's voice needs major work. When she's trying to belt it out, it's the most annoying, but even when she's singing like everyone else it causes you to cringe a little. But, on the plus side, some of the lyrics might minister to people. Different songs touch people in different ways. A few of the lines jumped out as being good. And Jillian is a very pretty lady. She also seems sweet. So, even though 2% of this album I thought was OK, the rest of it is NOT at all worth spending your $14.00 on. Go for something that you can really dance to like 'N Sync's self-titled album. ![]() The Lodger $9.99 I bought this as I am a Simon Baker fan and love who dunnits. It is a good little movie but some inaccuracies really detracted from the movie. I found it distracting in the "rain" scenes to see pouring down rain with not one drop falling in the rain puddles on the sidewalk just in front of The Lodger as he finds the house or the rainbows of color in the incredibly bright background as the door is opened to see the first glimpse of The Lodger. Just annoying details that could have been easily rectified with a few sprinkles of better placed water. I also just read Patricia Cornwall's book on Jack the Ripper. Anyone who knows much of the MO of the Ripper knows he attacked from behind, was right handed, and almost beheaded several of his victims before butchering the women; these facts were lost on the scriptwriters. Again, annoying little details that weren't protrayed accurately in the film and detract from my viewing of the movie. I am not a detail person but I think these problems could have been solved with a little time spent in simple research. I just wish a little more time had been spent on the developing relationship between the Lodger and landlord; it would have increased my interest and rounded out characters a bit more. Overall though, this was still an interesting film that left one wondering until the very last frame (literally) which I love. I know I wasn't sure I knew who the murderer was until then! |
