![]() Stand-up comedy from "Seinfeld", Seasons 1-6 (Seinfeld on DVD) $35.00 This Seinfeld exclusive CD was released as a promotional item for Seinfeld on DVD in 2005, highlighting some of the best of Jerry Seinfeld's stand-up comedy from the show monologues in seasons 1-6. ![]() Seinlanguage $14.00 Found a used copy of this, many years after the fact, and thought I'd give it a try. I've never been a fan of Seinfeld the comedian or "Seinfeld" the sitcom, although I've at least started to grudgingly admit that he can be funny sometimes...maybe by accident. The few laughs I got from this book seemed to be accidental, anyway..but there were still enough to rate two stars...just barely! As Seinfeld might have observed, 'It's like the jokes were invited to a party for all the other funny jokes, but the not-funny jokes crashed the party. You could almost imagine a guy at the door saying, 'OK, one-liners over there, riddles, this way, shaggy-dog stories, yeah, come on in, you're good...vaguely humorous observations? I don't see you on my list...'' Classic example of a guy who already had more than enough money trying to cash in even more. ![]() Halloween $7.99 A lot of the people who criticise Halloween by Jerry Seinfeld and James Bennett don't really understand what the product actually is. It's an old track taken from the Telling You For the Last Time stand up tour era where the words have been printed and illustrations added by illustrator James Bennett. It's not a children's picture book written from scratch to appeal to kids. Not that kids won't enjoy it but the big question for whoever you're buying it for is do they like Seinfeld. If the kids in question don't like or have never even watched Seinfeld then maybe you should just buy Halloween for yourself and not use them as an excuse for buying it. Non Seinfeld fans are unlikely to enjoy what is basically an expansion of the intro stand up routine on one of the earlier Seinfeld TV show episodes. Halloween is basically a chance for fans to relive the Seinfeld days or if they were lucky enough to see Jerry doing a stand up show to relive that. It is also a chance to reminisce of what Halloween was like for those North Americans around Jerry's age when they were kids. Of course this element probably isn't going to be that interesting or relevant to kids today who didn't live that back then or who aren't from North America. So the majority of those who will enjoy this will no doubt be adults however if your kids also love Seinfeld they'll like it too. The text does work better as a stand up routine done in the style of the way Jerry Seinfeld speaks, which is why if you've got the choice you should get the version which comes with the CD of him performing the act. Just reading the book or expecting your kid to do so in a normal reading way doesn't work at all. Are there better Seinfeld standup routines than Halloween they could have done this way? Yes no doubt, and hopefully we'll see more in the future. ![]() Seinfeld - The Complete Series $250.95 What is there really to review with "Seinfeld - The Complete Series"? If you had a TV in 1990's on Thursday nights it was most likely tuned into "Seinfeld"...it really is as simple as that. Finally the entire series is compiled into a nice box set here, and any fan of the show will want to own it. If you've already dropped the money on the individual seasons, there isn't a need to buy this as there aren't any new "extras", just more convenient packaging. My wife and just finished Season 9 last night with the final episode. I loved watching the show in chronological order, there are so many little things I missed the first time around, or by catching the odd re-run here and there (Jerry calling George "Biff" after the "Death of Salesman" character through two seasons, why George started referring to himself in the 3rd person etc.) "Seinfeld" is consistantly funny, finding humor in the everyday, mundane things, like a woman who doesn't swing her arms when she walks. This is a character driven show, and with Elaine, George, Jerry & Kramer it's easy to see why "Seinfeld" was a show about nothing, these characters didn't need the typical sitcom plotlines in order to make comedy gold. Simply putting the four of them in a room together was more than enough to get the laughter started. This is a show you can go back and watch over-and-over again, always finding something new to chuckle at. If you haven't watched "Seinfeld" since the days of "Must See TV" do yourself a favor and pick this up. |
