I get shivers just re-playing her arias in my head. Franco Corelli is an excellent Don Jose, and his Flower Song is exquisite. Mirelli Freni is the definitive Michaella and Robert Merrill is a convincing Escamillo. And HVK is HVK. I totally agree with an earlier reviewer that he made beautiful music. Don't be turned off by the french (have you heard Marilyn Horne or Placido Domingo speak french?), and don't be turned off by the updated libretto which removes the talking sections.
