Jazz Quartet
 Modern Jazz Quartet: 1957 $15.98 This, for me, one of their premier efforts; perhaps their 'best' studio album. I remember this as a kid - my father owned it. I am glad to see it finally available on cd. If you like this type of jazz, collaborative and smooth like a good brandy, get it. For those that are looking for more of their great albums, "The Complete Last Concert" and "Modern Jazz Quartet - European Concert 1962" are excellent.  The Best of the Modern Jazz Quartet $11.98 groovy, sultry and satisfying but ultimately truncated version of greatness. This thing needed more of a good thing: additional songs!  Plays George Gershwin's Porgy And Bess $6.93 I'm old, really old, so you can believe I've loved the MJQ since my prime. I even went to see them in person, in their dotage (not mine). But this effort is SO not like them, so disconnected from the original, the melodies, storyline, characters that it should bear a different title altogether.  The Modern Jazz Quartet: 35th Anniversary Tour $19.99 Many of the musician in the dvd are long gone but, the music is a wonderful testament to their musicianship. If you want to have a real modern experience then this dvd is a must have. |
