![]() National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze [VHS] $6.89 Taken at face value, Dorm Daze is an Exagerated view of dorm life for college kids, with its relationships, love triagles, and the problems/gossip that occur while sharing living quarters with so many people. Initially starting out as a movie following one brother's attempt to get his younger brother "some Action" by purchasing a prostitute, it soon becomes one involving mixed up identities and a good bunch of money. Along the way many characters are introduced, the nerdy girl, the nerdy guy who secretly love the nerdy girl...who is hot, the young couple that has goes through a relationship crisis, the gossipy girls that spred rumors and jump to conclusions...you get the point. But the writers did do a fairly good job at pulling all of these characters together into one plot that did have some cohesion to it, and actually was quite funny at how things got blown out of proportions. A good comedy rental, or buy it for cheap here on amazon since rentals cost so much any more. CAUTION, they have now released Dorm Daze 2, which makes this movie look like a masterpiece compared to it. ![]() Ghouls $2.99 Before I go any further, lemme just warn you all, this is a Sci-Fi Original film so if you're no fan of silly, cheesy B-movie junk packed with loads of CG and mediocre acting, you may want to just avoid this film altogether. For those of you, like me, that love Sci-Fi Original films, despite their varying degrees of ineptitude, Ghouls strangely satisfies. The story wasn't incredibly original but it was solid enough and the dialogue goes from being really really bad to just okay but the draw here is beauty and the beasts; the CG is sparse for a change and the seriously hot Kristen Renton is sure to mesmerize viewers with her assets. Oh yeah, did I mention the eternally hot Erin Gray of Buck Rogers is in this? Not only do we get the beautiful Gray but William (Ghostbusters) Atherton also stars! Nice little lineup for a film most will probably end up ignoring which is a bit of a shame because this was actually better than one would expect. When you talk about a flick called Ghouls, one fully expects to see Ghouls and I was pleasantly surprised to find the titular beasties in real deal latex! They occasionally burst into floating, black balls of CG mist but when they materialize to feed, zowie, they are gross, scary and nasty! The only thing that could possibly make these monsters cooler would be meaty, gory carnage and, once again, the film delivers! What more must a film give you?!! Does it have to be a masterpiece to entertain? If I could say one thing about Sci-Fi Originals that you simply cannot dispute it is this, Sci-Fi spares no expense on production design, costumes, score and CG. Even if the films are bad, they're lightyears better than the majority of the indie horror stuff we see hit retail/rental shelves on a weekly basis from companies like Lionsgate, Sony and Dimension. Granted it's not the greatest film but it's entertaining and I'm a fan of Sci-Fi Original films so if you're a sucker like me for a pretty girl, nasty monsters and some quality gore, check this out. ![]() Detroit Rock City $3.95 This movie is a sorry excuse for a comedy about 4 High School stoners who main ambition in life is to see Kiss in concert back in 1978.They embark on a quest to the city of Detroit where the concert is being held. One of them contemplates robbing a convenieence store, another guy suffers from premajature ejaculation and can't hold his liquor either. This is because these losers have no cash to buy tickets . Maybe they should not have spent all their money on drugs.I give this highly overrated movie 5 stars because I like the Pontiac Trans Am car in this movie. That's about all it has going for it.Perhaps this movie started Edward Fulrlong into his downward spiral of drugs excesses which is why he is no longer dating Paris Hilton. ![]() Ghouls $19.98 Before I go any further, lemme just warn you all, this is a Sci-Fi Original film so if you're no fan of silly, cheesy B-movie junk packed with loads of CG and mediocre acting, you may want to just avoid this film altogether.
