Walter Mirisch produced a few of the truly great films of American cinema history. ' The Apartment' ' The Magnificent Seven' ' Some Like it Hot'. Mirisch comes to the Rose program with a Memoir entitled "I thought we were making Movies Not History." Mirisch is a veteran of Hollywood who seems to have known everyone. He is affable and positive, and does not down anyone . He is respectable and decent, but not brilliant in his speech. The brilliance in this segment is in the film clips. Mirisch does tell Charlie Rose a few Hollywood anecdotes he probably has not heard before. He does give a sense of the wonder of his own life in film, and his sense of having truly done something of value in life.
An enjoyable segment, if not a great one.

What I find amazing is how did this this reporter ever get Abramoff to talk to him without his own lawyers and the federal prosecutors knowing about it. It's nice to hear the other side of the story...so persuasively and carefully documented. I don't think I'll ever believe anything I read in the newspapers again without a huge dose of skepticism.
