![]() Introducing Time, Third Edition (Introducing (Icon)) $12.95 The author did a very good job for introducing this big and diffuclt topic within simple paragraphs. Here I'll try to figure out the main points which are hidden in the structure of the book. In the beginning, the author started to talk about several concepts such as 1.Clocks 2.Psychological time 3.Time scenarios 4.Relationalism and absolute time 5.Relative and non-relative 6.Tenseless and tensed 7.Dimensions 8.Motion and change These conceptions can help us to rethink our world in several different ways. Then, he introduced special relativity--to explain Time Travel is logical possible(under the classical logic: A=A).It means that we can not violate the rule "A=A" when we think about Time travel. Further, he continued to discuss General relativity to explain--is it possible for phyical Time Travel? After that,he used a very good,in my opinion,method- Thermodynamics- to explain: 1.where and how did the universe come from? 2.what possible will the universe be in the future? According to a great German philosopher-Kant,we human beings carry a piror facualty-Time,Space,Cause,Effect- when we were born. We percept our surrounding under this framework. Hence,to understand these categories (Time,Space,Cause,Effect) are important. Physics has devoted a big part to Time and Space(or Timespace). In history, many great thinkers-such as Newton, Einstein-proposed thier unique worldview of space and time to promote human beings' intellection. The book included their conceptions and discussed two of categories well. I do not have any background of physics. However, I bet that even you are in lack of fundemental knowledge of physics, you still can learn about "Time(Space)" through this book. Finally, I have to say again that the author introduced the difficult topic very well. By the way, I think my review may be more suitable for someone who has finished the book than those who don't. p.s.Sorry for my poor English. ![]() Introducing Joss Stone $18.98 I realize this review is a couple of years overdue but I think everyone should know about the copy restriction on this CD. I had heard some of Ms. Stone's previous work on the radio and from friends. After seeing Stone being interviewed on every talk show imaginable I bought this CD with the intent of listening to it on my IPOD as I do every CD I own. I guess the joke was on me because there is software on the CD which prevents the CD from being loaded into Itunes. This infuriated me to the point that I've never actually listened to CD. Sorry, Ms. Stone and Virgin records, but this is unacceptable to me. As a librarian and a consumer I believe in the right to make a backup copy of anything I buy as long as it is for my own use. You've violated my rights. I am done with you. ![]() Introducing Microsoft˘î .NET, Third Edition (Pro-Developer) $29.99 This book is a good introduction to various parts of the Microsoft .NET Framework the Microsoft Visual Studio. It covers many of the areas that a programmer using .NET will need to be aware of .ASP pages, Windows Forms, using XML, and accessing databases from the programs among others. While working through the book, I attended a developer event hosted by Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN). The material that I had already worked with helped me with understanding the new technologies that were demonstrated. Since this book covers a good spectrum of the .NET environment, there were no areas of the demonstration that went over my head. As far as being in need of an update, not all of the examples worked under my VS2005 trial version that I loaded in order to use it with this book. The Simplest Threading Example from Chapter 9 no longer works under VS2005 due to the changes in thread security. The author (David Platt) notes in the text that this may someday occur and it has. There needs to be a new edition of this book so that changes since the previous version of Visual Studio and the .NET Framework can be addresed so that all of the examples work and can be used as reference. Overall this is a very good book which I would highly recommend. I am coming at this as a Visual C++ 6.0 programmer who is familiar with some of the other technologies in Visual Studio and needed to make the step into the latest version of the developer environment. This book succeeded for me and I think would be a good starting point for others coming from other development environments and languages. ![]() Super Booster Softgels 60 Softgels with Advanced K2 Complex From the Life Extension Foundation.
