 Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 Resource Kit $49.99 item received is new or close to new within 10 days purchase is satisfied  Internet Information Services (IIS) 6 Resource Kit (Pro-Resource Kit) $69.99 This brick of a book is nearly 1200 pages long, but that's only because the authors repeat content over and over, many times verbatim. To prove my point, just count the number of times the authors describe the two isolation modes in IIS 6. I stopped counting at 20, and I was barely into the second part. It's not a book you'll ever want to read from cover to cover, and if you do you'll quickly fall asleep from the repetition and lack of meaty substance. The flow is not consistent and, as others have pointed out, the authors frequently refer to other sections of the book without providing page numbers, which makes jumping around the book a difficult and impractical exercise. It would be better if they had left out the references and reduced the page count. The book's only saving grace is that a PDF version is included, which you CAN jump around in and find topics easily. All in all, though, this book's a stinker and does not live up to its heft. I honestly believe you'll get far more benefit from installing and playing with the tool, and referring to the built-in help. In fact, the book makes frequent references to the online help. IIS 6 is a fantastic web and application server and has a solid track record for performance and stability. Too bad the authors couldn't do a better job of getting that across to their readers. |
