![]() Invisible New York: The Hidden Infrastructure of the City (Creating the North American Landscape) $39.00 Great coffee table book of little-seen aspects of NYC. One warning I'd mention is that not all of the pictures are of things underground/unseen. Some are simply of neglected/abandonded/decaying above ground sites (not exactly what I'd expected but it's still a good collection). Perhaps it would be best to peruse this book at your local bookseller before making a decision on the purchase. ![]() Infrastructure 2008: A Competitive Advantage $39.95 A reference that examines trends in?transportation and road networks in the United States and abroad, this?resource?details how to finance?their construction and maintenance with both public and private funds,?the effect of these investments on the existing environment,?innovative ways countries across the globe have built these systems, and infrastructure's essential role in building sustainable communities around the world. ![]() Engineering the City: How Infrastructure Works $14.95 I totally agree with the previous reviewer; this is a fun book to read with your kids and do the activies together. It's also perfect for those awkward moments when they ask you a question like, "how does a road work?" and you don't exactly know the answer. It spells out everything in an easy-to-understand way. ![]() Infrastructure: A Field Guide to the Industrial Landscape $35.00 I really enjoyed this book and pick it up again from time to time. Others have described the book, so I'll leave it at that, but I will say it is nice to now be able to identify some of the structures you see from the window of an airplane. Or that tube thing coming out of the ground on someone's property. Author also goes into detail about how the structures function, he doesn't just show you photos. |
