Howard Hughes' Hell's Angels

Well here you are, the 2 Million dollar, or something like that film of Howard Hughes. This film was spotlighted in the movie "The Aviator". I happened to see it a few years before "The Avaitor" and found it remarkable for its time. Thank you Turner Classics! Considering it was made during the change over from silent movies to those with sound, you can defiantly tell what scenes were re-shot with sound and which are originals to the silent script. Though it's a bit long-winded, and slow at times, its still a great story and film. Take good note of the characters in the beginning of the film. It's likely one of the first films that ties everyone in through out the story the way it does. A great classic, it defiantly show's its age but is still quite enjoyable.

This fascinating book reveals the standard gross dysfunctionality of the southern U.S. culture (think Tennessee Williams in decades past!). Revealing an incestuous relationship between Howard and his mother during his youth, his homosexual and heterosexual relationships during his youth and thereafter, and the bases for his gross dysfunctional behavior throughout most of his years (his eccentric parents), this tome is a 700+ page National Enquirer-type expose of decadent Texas and Hollywood (at least through page 100, which is where I am at at the time of posting this review) that is truly mesmerizing! Once I started reading it, I simply couldn't put it down! Highly recommended!

This book accurately follows the life of Howard Hughes from beginning to end. It is accurate and definitive. I worked for Hughes for 32 years and participated in some of the events set forth in the book. I have never found anything inaccurate in the book. It is the only dependable biography of this great man.

This book written by Geoff Schumacher is the best I have ever read on Howard Hughes. I worked in the Executive offices at Hughes during the 60's and 70's, and knowing pretty much everyone he interviewed in the book, I would have to say he certainly did his homework. I am still in touch with a few (not many) that are still alive and they agree. It is certainly well worth reading, if you are intrigued by Howard Hughes.
