 Political Ideals $30.00 This book is roughly divided into two parts, the first being a general introduction to HS Chamberlain, his influence, his predecessors, his vision and the intellectual milieu he was a part of, the second part is the translation by Dr. Alexander Jacob of HS Chamberlain's 1915 WW1 book "Politische Ideale". Jacob is an excellent academic, and his style of writing is both clear and deep at the same time, an ability very few people have in his field of work (mostly through choice, but that is another issue). He mentions Arthur De Gobineau, Heinrich von Treitschke, Alfred Rosenberg and others; all great thinkers that have been influenced by HS Chamberlain, or had a decisive influence upon HS Chamberlain themselves. Jacob's prose is a delight to read, and I really recommend that you check out his marvellous book "Nobilitas" as well, as it really combines well with this volume. The essays by HS Chamberlain are like most of his writing very good philosophical and political material. He uses a technique of comparison, where he compares the organic and cohesive culture and nation of Germany with the sterile and infected culture and nation of England against eachother, and I'll let you guess which comes out best. Apart from this there's not so much to say about the essays themselves, it's a short read, containing very nice European spiritual views with a monarchist bent, that would have saved Europe in a very short time back when it was still a relatively easy thing to accomplish. Sadly, this did not occur, but it's never too late, so if you want to do your part, then reading this excellent book is a fine contribution towards this noble goal. Highly recommended for everyone!
