Beatin' The Heat
Beatin' The Heat

$6.99
We went to see Dan Hicks in June 2007 at the BB King Blues Club in NYC. I was hoping for a repeat of "Where's the Money" and was initially disappointed they didn't play anything from that album. But we bought this on the way out and it is played nonstop at our house now. These are the tunes we use to start every weekend. I loved them back in the 70's but also now love the direction they've gone in years later.
I can't recommend this highly enough.
In fact, it's stuck in my head on a nonstop loop and that's OK with me.
Eric Johnson: Total Electric Guitar
Eric Johnson: Total Electric Guitar

First I'd like to say I'm a huge EJ fan and have every record from Ah Via Musicom onward, Tones just isn't that great IMO. This DVD/booklet combo is really thorough at covering ERIC's style and some of his influences, but it's not the be all end all of guitar technique books. It also doesn't really cover any theory. If you're simply looking for a good study on Eric Johnson's techniques, some of his influences, and his outlook on playing, then this should be a great investment. Otherwise, I'd suggest looking into Sheets of Sound by Jack A. Zucker for hybrid picking, alternate picking, and Sweep/Economy Picking techniques, The Improviser's OS by Wayne Krantz for a great improvisation method, and the Modern Method for Guitar by William Leavitt. I'd also suggest buying the Chord Factory by Jon Damian, as it will expand your chord vocabulary exponoentially (unless you're Joe Pass).

Very pleased with this cookbook. It provided more than just recipes-included helpful tips and a great chart about peppers and their "hotness".

Highly recommend this cookbook to those who love to cook or want to learn how to start.
Joe Pass: The Blues Side Of Jazz
Joe Pass: The Blues Side Of Jazz

There's no doubt Joe was one of the very best jazz guitar players ever, but as a teacher he was not especially gifted. On this cd is is actually pretty good about explaining the chords, but as far as single note lines goes, he sheds very little light.
