![]() Hezbollah: The Changing Face of Terrorism $26.00 Hezbollah: The Changing Face of Terrorism offers a history of Hezbollah that is now outdated, so as with Hamas this should not be the only book you read, but it provides a good starting point for learning about the basic origins and mission of Hezbollah offering a look at the clanistic regional politics of Lebanon. As noted by a previous reviewer, one man's terrorist group is another's resistance movement. The Lebanese people have been trying to drive Israel from land that they feel belongs to them, but they hadn't had a capable force to do it until Hezbollah emerged dealing Israel two surprising defeats leading to partial pullouts. Beyond wins on the battlefield, Hezbollah conducted similar social service programs to Hamas and won hearts and minds by providing food, housing, jobs, education, etc. Israel and its' Western allies would consider Hezbollah a terrorist group because of their attacks on areas within Israel, but a large section of Lebanese people would consider them a legit resistance movement for resisting an unjust Israeli occupation. The lines between terrorism and resistance movement are often gray and blurry. ![]() 34 Days: Israel, Hezbollah, and the War in Lebanon $16.95 An insightful book, which appears to be modeled after Bob Woodard's "Bush at War" series, tackling the Lebanese War 2006 primarily from the the offices of the Israeli Prime Minister. The book covers all aspects of the war from UN negotiation, events leading to the war, minimal details of what happened militarily during the war, and how it ended. The entire book moves chronologically: Prewar, war, Ceasefire, future. I was looking for something providing details on the actual military excursion, but that was not forthcoming in this text. I gave a 3 star rating because the book was confusing at times, jumping back and forth in time and place. So organization was a problem. As well, the focus on Olmert was annoying. I was not interested in why Omlert did this or Olmert did that. Many times, his actions were recorded which had only minimal relation to the war. ![]() Hezbollah $41.50 HEZBOLLAH has been synonymous with terror for decade, but few books examine its reputation, evolution, and development. This book is an essential recommendation for any college-level or specialty collection strong in Muslim history and culture: it surveys the party's ties to Iran, its members, and its involvement in Islam and not only provides a history, but interviews hostage takers and victims alike to shed light on philosophy, action, and culture. Essential for any who would study the region's past, present and possible futures. Diane C.
