This has long been one of my very favorite movies. It's certainly dark but with quiet moments of redemption. Jack Nicholson, Harvey Keitel, and Warren Oates are excellent. (One of Oates' final films. I still miss him.) Mike Gomez is often overlooked amongst that stellar group but is pitch perfect as the slimy villain. There's really no other word for it. He is awful and does it wonderfully! I think it's the title song that takes the film from very, very good to truly unforgettable. Listen to the lyrics. They haunt, as does this entire movie.

This is a movie with an emphasis on dialogue, ambiance, and characterization. The acting is superb, and the script is top-drawer. SMOKE is a funny, sometimes poignant, slice-of-life film with a whole lot of heart.

Life on Mars: The Complete Series

This series was a thinking person entertainment. Very interesting to see how the law and the police acted in the 1970's and slowly watch how one person's thinking can help change all around them.

Wish it had stay on the TV, thought it was a very good show and enjoy watching it all over again.
