![]() Ultimate Collection $35.98 Are we ever gonna get any of those early gems? The song that introduced so many of us to Grace Jones was the Tom Moulton 12" mix of That's The Trouble. Why is that never on any reissue? I know we're all supposed to say that Grace wasn't so important until Nightclubbing, but those early albums and 12 inch singles were fun and creative and quirky, and miles ahead of their contemporaries. It would be outstanding to have a reissue of those first three albums and all the 12 inch mixes that came out of the. Tom Moulton & Grace jones - a real dream team of the disco era. ![]() Island Life $11.98 Grace Jones was a huge star in Europe in the late 70s/early 80s with irresitable reggae/disco/dance tunes, and this compilation brings the essential tracks of that era. "Island Life" (released in 1985; 10 tracks; 48 min.) brings all of the hits of that era, starting with a clever interpretation of Edit Piaff's "La Vie On Rose", a massive hit in continental Europe. The radical dub reinventing of the Pretenders' "Private Life" is outstanding. I don't care much for the Roxy Music's cover of "Love Is the Drug". But the best tracks are on the second half of this compilation: "Pull Up to the Bumper" will get any wallflower onto the dance floor. "Walking In the Rain" is a desolate, threatening tune, just great. It leads up to the best track of all, "My Jamaican Guy", the best dance tune ever from Grace Jones. Almost 30 years later, is still stands the test of time, just outstanding. Grace Jones has come back with a new album last year ("Hurricane"), out of nowhere really (I haven't heard it yet, but plan to). She played a one-off gig in London not long ago that was well received, I can only hope she'll go on tour, I'd love to see her in concert. Meanwhile, if you are looking for a compilation of her best work from the legendary late 70s/early 80s era, look no further, this compilation will do more than well. ![]() Classic Grace Jones $10.98 2008 collection containing the finest fruits from this true 'master' of music. Each disc in this series contains a great selection of hits as well as a few lesser known gems that have tickled the fancy of faithful fans worldwide. This compilation from the Jamaican New Wave/Club diva features 13 tracks including 'Private Life', 'Warm Leatherette', 'Love Is The Drug', 'Nightclubbing' and more. Spectrum. ![]() Hurricane $19.99 She's baaaaaaack!!!!!!!!! After a too-long absence from recording as a headliner, Grace Jones takes you on the journey of her life in her best and most personal album yet. "This Is" is the pulsating introduction to her life story. The rock/gospel-anthem "Williams' Blood" speaks to her origins and family relationships. "Corporate Cannibal" is a haunting, but playful look at the "Grace Jones Persona". The video is a must-see! "I'm Crying(Mother's Tears)" is probably the most personal song on the CD, and shows a rarely-seen vulnerable side of Grace Jones. Turn up the bass and groove to the reggae beat of "Well, Well, Well. The reunion with Sly, Robbie, and Sticky bring her back to her roots and gives us some of her best music! "Hurricane" is a declaration of the power and strength that this woman possesses. "Love You To Life" has that rhythmic speak-sing reminiscent of "Walking In The Rain". The chanteuse is back in "Sunset Sunrise", a catchy euro/reggae tune that ends with her singing in French! Grace talks about her demons in "Devil In My Life", a song that gains energy as it goes. Definitely worth the money! |
