![]() All the Pretty Horses / Geronimo: An American Legend $19.94 Agree wholeheartedly with reviewer on misrepresentation of aspect ratio by Sony on dvd Geronimo:An American Legend as part of the double feature ALL THE PRETTY HORSES and GERONIMO. I checked out the description in INDB and several internet retailers before I decided to purchase. I was very ticked off at Sony for their deceptive advertising and will contact Sony directly. Amazon cannot be expected to inspect each dvd to see if it is in aspect ratio stated on dvd box and literature, but they have the clout to reprehend Sony in this matter. ![]() Geronimo: The U.S. Airborne in World War II $6.98 I picked up this DVD because I had just seen Band of Brothers and wanted to know more about the airborne during WWII. Wow, what a treat this documentary was! First the format is very different - there was no narrator - instead the whole program is made up of interviews of Airborne vets and historians. It works very well and really puts you in their shoes. Very informative and accrate from what I could tell. Not only did I learn a lot about the airborne during WWII but I was rivited to the screen - very well done. There are two main programs:Normandy - from the training before D-Day through to the fighting during the breakout.Market Garden - A less well-known airborne mission that eventually ended in failure. And a lot of good extras:Training Missions in: Sicily Italy and Southern FranceHighly recommended!!! ![]() Once They Moved Like The Wind : Cochise, Geronimo, And The Apache Wars $24.95 David Robert's account of the final stages of the Apache Wars in Arizona, New Mexico and Northern Mexico presents the history in very balance and even handed manner detailing atrocities on both sides. The small bands of Apaches led by leaders like Cochise , Geronimo and Nana fought a remarkable guerilla style war against obviously much better equipped and larger forces and their story is well documented given that many of the participants survived well into the 20th century. The Apache's superior knowledge of the landscape and the ability to find places of refuge deep in the mountains enabled them to hold out against significant odds yet the narrative has a sense of inevitability about it as their numbers dwindle and both the US and Mexican government continue to apply greater resources to the effort. In the end Robert's book indicates the importance of a handful of Apache leaders who through force of character inspired a relatively small number of followers to persevere and fight on. At times the often cruel and sometimes idiotic behavior of the army might have inspired them alone but his point of view is that without these individuals this history may have played out very differently. ![]() Geronimo - An American Legend $14.94 This movie is simply amazing. It came so quickly that I had it in less than a week. I love this movie simply because it is the most factual movie about the Apache Indian nation and their fight against the American Army. Thank you |
