Military petitions for naturalization filed in the Philadelphia (County) District Court, 1862-1874 (Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania monograph series) $20.00 In 1862, the U.S. gov t., as a reward to the aliens who served in the Union forces during the Civil War, allowed these vets. to petition for citizenship after receiving an honorable discharge. The 5-yr. residency requirement was reduced to 1-yr. There were over 950 vets. who petitioned the Phila. [County] District Court between 1862 & 1874 using their military service to satisfy the requirements for citizenship. The 1862 fed. law restricted the use of military service only to those vets. of the land forces. However, the clerks in Phila. granted citizenship to many vets. of the U.S. Navy & Marine Corps. The fed. gov t. did not grant non-army veterans the same rights until 1894. This index represents 15% of the total number of petitions filed in Phila. during this period. It makes me crazy for some reason to find a hair that needs plucking and I keep my eyebrows groomed obsessively. Many years ago I kept reading about tweezerman in beauty magazines when they first came out. Unlike other tweezers they are hand sharpened and I can attest to the fact that that apparently makes a huge difference. Where other tweezers allow the thinner or smaller hairs to slip through, tweezerman tweezers grip em all. Also if they ever get dull you can send them to the company and they will hand grind them again. However in spite of me using them for things they aren't made for like poking holes in something, they never dull I have tried other brands shaped the same and threw them out. Also, I don't like the pointed end tweezerman. I only like the slanted tip as the best grip whenever you see an article about the best beauty tools this is always the only tweezer I ever see mentioned |
