The Case Against the Fed
The Case Against the Fed

I thoroughly enjoyed Rothbard's comprehensive break down of our monetary system and the development of the Fed. As a current undergraduate student with no prior formal education in Economics at this level, I found the material to be easy to follow as well as easy to understand. With many citations to back up his arguments, I boast this book to be a quick and concise take on this matter. It's perfect to get a basic understanding for US Economics, Fractional-Reserve Banking, the Fed, and all the characters that came into play building this establishment.

If you want to be "schooled" about the history and creation of the Federal Reserve system, this is a documentary for you. It's not a flashy or entertaining in a "Hollywood style", but it's an excellent historical and educational video about the creation of the Federal Reserve, the IRS, etc. Most Americans would be shocked to learn that the Federal Reserve is a PRIVATE business entity and NOT part of the US government! It's owned and ruled by elitist banking people in the US and Europe who don't give a hoot about the average guy. Our politicians may be guilty of mis-handling OUR money, but the Federal Reserve and their ilk are actually much worse violators. This video was produced by the Mises Institute [...] and you can watch a low resolution version of it on their site. Mises also has a channel on YouTube as well called "misesmedia".

This book did a pretty good job in providing a relatively thorough background of the history of the Fed. Dr. Wells goes through the evolution of the Federal Reserve, starting from its origins with the Federal Reserve Act and ending with Greenspan's chairmanship. The best part of this book is how Wells highlights the various mistakes that the Fed has made and show how the Fed has learned from these mistakes.

One weakness of this book is that it is already somewhat outdated. In the last several months the Federal Reserve has made some drastic changes that are not in the book. The book is also expensive at more then 30 dollars for a relatively short (200 page) paperback.

Very informative and accurate. I verified several bits of information given through other sources. If you have "America:Freedom to Fascism" and "Money Masters", you should add this Fed documentary also to your collection.
