![]() Hardwiring Excellence: Purpose, Worthwhile Work, Making a Difference $28.00 Several years ago, I was privileged to work with a COO who provided this book to all leaders as a textbook for change. And indeed the hospital did change as we focused on the Five Pillars (People, Service, Finance, Quality, Growth). We saw huge gains in employee satisfaction as we became more intentional in our interactions with staff. We enlisted staff-based teams to rebuild our culture around service. What a joy to belong to an organization that had aligned itself with its mission! I was blessed to be able to carry many of the things I learned to my next leadership opportunity where, again, a dramatic move toward increased employee satisfaction and service excellence changed the flavor and function of the organization. It's a plan and a choice. ![]() In Search of Excellence: Lessons from America's Best-Run Companies (Collins Business Essentials) $16.95 "In observing excellent companies, and specifically the way they interact with customers, the consistent presence of obsession was most striking. This characteristically occurred as a seemingly unjustifiable overcommitted to some form of quality, reliability, or service." First published in 1982, this book went on to become the first management blockbuster. Based on research into America's most successful companies, the authors identify eight management principles common to each of them: 1. A bias for action, active decision making - "getting on with it." 2. "Close to the customer - learning from the people served by the business. 3. Autonomy and entrepreneurship - fostering innovation and nurturing "champions." 4. Productivity through people - treating rank and file employees as a source of quality. 5. Hands-on, value-driven - management philosophy that guides everyday practice - management showing its commitment. 6. Stick to the knitting - stay with the business that you know. 7. Simple form, lean staff - some of the best companies have minimal HQ staff. 8. Simultaneous loose-tight properties - autonomy in shop-floor activities plus strong centralized values. This book was groundbreaking both for it's highly readable style and for it's rejection of the rational model of management. The insights from this book still resonate today and the influence of the research-based approach can be seen in other authors work. ![]() In Pursuit of Excellence - 4th Edition $19.95 The book was true to the advertised condition and the shipping was very quick. Thank You!!! ![]() Excellence: Inspiration for Achieving Your Personal Best $18.95 Impressive compilation of quotes. I'm someone who is always looking to grow and improve. Typically I'm reading about R/E investing, finance, and strategic planning in business but this title just caught my attention. It is one of those simple books that really makes a person stop while reading, take a few notes, and think about leadership and what it takes to be number one! I have an MBA from a top 25 B-school and have been very fortunate both personally and professionally but I've learned that one can never stop learning about excellence if the ultimate goal is to be the best. This book is a great read; I highly recommend it! |
