Razz music as I call it: Razorblade jazz.

Seriously, this is jazz. Jazz is structured around improvisation and improvisation in the performance of "songs". While there are no songs here, Crimson have a large catalog of songs, all of which they've put spins on in one way or another. Crimson is a jazz band, or jazz-rock band, or jazz-metal band, but I just call them razz, because nothing comes closer to evoking the sensation of icy-cold razorblades slashing your eardrums than Robert Fripp's guitar playing.

This is very cerebral, dark stuff, but since I'm a sucker for "interesting" music, hence my love for the Crimson King, this album rates as one of the top dogs of their 40 year career. Yup, it's up there with Red and Lark's Tongues. In the Court doesn't even come close.

It's a classic, but for very different reasons than Red or even Lark's are. Think of Lark's Tongues in Aspic Part I, 20 years into the future - 3 times as insane, 5 times the menace, twice the volume, and add all that with an aging, grumpier Fripp, and you've got a Crimson album that finally makes the name King Crimson appropriate. (King Crimson is a synonym for the Devil, or in other words, Fripp)
