![]() Dysfunktional Family $14.99 I don't knock Eddie Griffin for his language nor do I feel that people who curse are ignorant. I curse like a sailor but I am a Junior at UC-Berkeley, one of the most prestigious universities on this planet. Its just comedy, I find it freakin' hilarious because alot of the things he said were true. Some of the things he said, many would agree on but would be too afraid to say it themselves. I give the man much props for that stand up because it was five star comedy! ![]() Message $8.96 The MC who introduces Eddie Griffin on The Message tells us that no less than Richard Pryor has called Griffin the King of Comedy. It's tough to understand why: Griffin is to Pryor what Master P (who makes an appearance here, on the album's opening song, "This Is for the Riders") is to Chuck D. Where Pryor challenged stereotypes and turned them on their ear, Griffin is more likely to simply perpetuate them. Though there are some good moments--such as when he characterizes church as a concert for people who don't get out, populated with preachers that were 1970s pimps--they're few and far between. One of the stars of the UPN sitcom Malcolm & Eddie, Griffin is a performer with more than a bit of charisma--but on The Message, he simply has nothing to say. --Randy Silver ![]() Eddie Griffin: Voodoo Child $14.99 First off. To: Eddie Griffin Thank you for getting up and driving your self to become a comic/actor. Thank you for writing "VooDoo Child" and for years of laughter. I have been searching for years for this DVD or even VHS. Untill this year I try the hopeless search string and much to my suprise, what do I find... Wow, it's finally here. So I jump right in and purchase me a copy. Can't wait to give this to my wife as a Valentines day gift. Her and I originally saw it air on HBO and made a copy of it. Well, the two moves we've had and countless loaning out of VHS tapes, it disappeared along the way. Finally it's commited to DVD and finally on the market. This is my first impression of Eddie Griffin, the very first thing my wife and I have seen of his and has watched him grow from it. And to this day, my wife and I still spit out some of the lines from this show on occation and quietly giggles about "Laylay's leg". His resent success has landed him on: "Men of the square table", I believe a series of SuperBowl Ads. Funny as L. We will continue to watch Eddie Griffin grow into quite a successfull actor like Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, Tom Cruze & Brad Pitt. This is a good show to purchase, sit down with the wife and prepare to crack up. I strongely advise this to any couple looking for that special box with the best laughs inside. (Disclaimer):Not for the kiddies! It's rating is UnRated, enough said... We're Pulling for ya Eddie. Congrates to your Continued Success. And we wish you all the more. ![]() My Baby's Daddy $7.99 My Baby's Daddy is a noble attempt at a comedy about fatherhood and responsibility. I can't beat up on this movie; it's not that Bad. My Baby's Daddy isn't the funniest movie, but at least its heart was in the right place. I give props to everyone for at least trying to make a film showing black men taking charge of their lives. Thanks to the heart and strong efforts of the cast and crew My Baby's Daddy overcomes its production obstacles and is overall a watchable entertaining movie. Mad props to Eddie Griffin and co for showing black men in a positive light and a balanced picture of black life in the ghetto. We need more efforts like this. The story follows three lifelong Philadelphia friends who are just coasting through life. Coincidentally their three girlfriends get pregnant and have their babies at the same time and give birth at the same time. From there we have hi-jinx and humor as the men learn moderation and adjust their quest for their dreams to fit their changing lives. The story has a happy ending that will leave the viewer satisfied. Production values on this movie are solid. The camera work is great and the editing is tight. Scenes transition into one another seamlessly, unlike some of those big budget action movies I've watched(*cough Daredevil, X2, X3, Cough). You feel like you're in the Philadelphia neighborhood hanging out with the fellas. Even though six writers worked on this screenplay the story is tight and cohesive with solid dialogue and a few funny lines. The acting here is pretty good, everyone does make an effort to make their characters convincing. Eddie Griffin, Anthony Anderson and Michael Imperioli are solid as the three dads. Method Man is hilarious for the short time he's onscreen. Bai Ling is very good as Anderson's girlfriend. She steals most of the scenes she's in and is often funnier than the guys in some cases. John Amos makes a great cameo as Uncle Bernie. My Baby's Daddy is worth a rental at best. If you want an interesting study of black men and relationships, pick up How U like me Now. (Yeah, I keep pushing that movie in every review, but this extremely underrated film is THAT good.) |
