 Thank You with CD (Audio) (Dove Award Signature Series) $14.99 My daughter bought this book to thank her Dad and me for everything we have ever done for her. I read it and cried, as we had just lost our son to a battle with brain cancer, and this book reminded me of him as he touched so many lives esp. in how he accepted his illness and in his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. But it also reminded us of our other three children, as they, too, have touched many lives in their own way ----so we bought each of them this book to thank them for what they are. This book is for all the people who quietly do the kind things in life that few people know about, yet who influence people just by the goodness that shines through them. It is a heart warming reminder to all of us that everything we do does matter.  Charlie Rose with Zbigniew Brzezinski; Mike Watchmaker; John Simon; Rita Dove (June 4, 1999) $24.95 Rita Dove who has been the Poet Laureate of the United States comes to Charlie Rose to talk about her new book of poems 'On the Bus with Rosa Parks". Dove is an affable, intelligent and thoughtful nice- looking middle- aged woman. She is pleasant. She talks a bit about Rosa Parks and the great historic moment when she was just too tired to get to the back of the bus- and in her small act of courage helped ignite the Civil Rights movement. Dove reads her poem about this. Unfortunately it is a bit too literal. No sparks. Rose asks about Poetry in general and Dove answers that Poetry is a form of Attention. She speaks about its intensity of Language. One has the feeling she is a fine person and a good poet- but that this is not going to move us into the deepest depths or the great heights.  Today's Best Christian Hits: the 26th Annual Dove Awards $13.98 I own well over 100 Christian music CDs. This one easily makes the top 10. My view of the Dove Awards is similar to my view of the Oscars: the one I want to win almost never wins. But for the year of the 26th Annual Dove Awards, they did it all right! This CD presents some of the finest contemporary Christian music from the early '90s."Children of the World" and "We Believe in God" are two of the best songs Amy Grant recorded since LEAD ME ON. The Rich Mullins classic, "Creed," from the album of the same name, gives us a great reminder of one of Rich Mullins's core beliefs:I believe what I believe It's what makes me what I am I did not make it No, it is making me It is the very truth of God And not the invention of any man.Included are classics (has it really already been 10 years) hits from Carman ("America Again"), 4Him ("Future Generations"), and Ray Boltz ("Allegiance"). Actually, all of the songs on here are good. When listening to this CD, the finger you use to press the Fast Forward button will not get much exercise. It's that good.Unfortunately, it looks like this one is going out of print (seems like that tends to happen to the really good ones). I would get one while I still had the chance! |
