I liked this game initially, and after beating it I put it away for awhile. About a year later I went back to give it another whirl and found it completely disturbing. I mean, I know - it's supposed to be, but I found the actual gameplay disturbing.

And This comes from someone who was raised on the series - from the first PC version and Wolfenstein on the Commodore 64.

The fun was gone for me. The graphics were there, the action was there, but it just lacked something... As i could play Doom 1 & 2 for hours upon hours, I couldn't stand another 10 minutes of this game. It lacked the draw and fun of say, the Half-Life games.

I hope Quake 4 is better.

When I saw the tracklist for this, I recognized a couple of the tracks, but upon listening to it, there's a lot that I either hadn't heard, or had forgotten how good it was. DOOM's mixing is really on point; very smooth but not intrusive, and the comic book dialog that separates some of the tracks is perfect. If you're a fan of DOOM's music, you need this in your life!

A really good game. Loads easy and plays great. Just upgraded to a screaming Systemax desktop which can exploit this, and all other, softwear.

Yeah this was a really weak attempt to translate the popular videogame from 1995 into a novel.
The authors decided to write the story from the main characters point of view, this approach does work
in a lot of stories but not this one. The story's central character is a marine named Flynn Taggert, fine,
at least they kept true to that aspect of the game. Flynn has a knack for making what should be the most frightening and dangerous situations seem comical and just slightly annoying. His little quips and remarks
just felt wrong for a person who is facing what could be the apocalypse. There is no sense of danger no sense of urgency you never feel like any of the characters are in any danger. I guess my personal experience with the game
has made me a little prejudiced. I thought Flynn should've been more animal-like, more brooding, a man on the edge of sanity who through dumb luck and brute strength manages, barely, to emerge victorious over the hordes of Hell.
I haven't read the other books in the series so I don't know what they finally decided the invaders
were, aliens or actual denizens of the Underworld. I liked the idea of the beasts being demons and devils
it made the game seem more creepy and surreal. In the book everything is explained,in an almost joking manner,
by the main character.
Well I bought this book back in 95 and couldn't stand it then, read a few chapters just the other day and couldn't finish it.
