 Laugh with Max Linder! $24.99 Perhaps the most underrated comedic actor of all time, Max Linder's brilliance shows it's full glory on this DVD. The classic "Seven Years Bad Luck" is a real treat and shows the origin of the "mirror" shtick that has been used many times over the decades. My personal favorite is the film short called "Troubles Of A Grass Widower." For those not familiar with the term, a "grass-widower" is a husband (generally of the henpecked variety) left to his own devices when the wife is away from home for reasons that vary from a weekend getaway to marital separation. In Linder's case, a spat with an attention-seeking wife at the breakfast/lunch table results in the wife's hasty retreat to her sympathetic mother's home while Max, in his usual happy-go-lucky way, finds no trouble in making a disaster out of cleaning the dishes, fixing dinner, and trashing more than one room of his home looking for a misplaced tie. Ultimately, Max is thankfully begging for his wife's forgiveness at the end of the movie but not before the mother-in-law winds up falling into an overturned piece of furniture that's barely big enough for her whale-like figure. This one one of Linder's earlier works, but by the time it was released, he was a renowned celebrity and one of the highest paid entertainers in the world. If you're looking for a glimpse into the brilliance of a man whose works are a watershed event in film history and who Charlie Chaplin admiringly referred to as "professor", you'll love this DVD.
