![]() All Time Hits, Vol. 1 $13.98 This album is a great compilation of 1950s (and some very early 60s) music that spans several different genres. I have fond memories of listening to the disc with my family--I grew up on oldies, even though I'm a child of the 80s. I'd recommend buying volumes #1 and #2 (although my family has 1-4) if you really like oldies (although at the time of recording, these were "newies"). There are a lot of great compilations out there, but this one ranks high. ![]() American Bandstand: Dick Clark and the Making of a Rock 'n' Roll Empire $16.95 At least Dick Clark cooperated with this, so you get his point of view. The author is unsparing about Clark's money making ways, but the book is a bit too padded with historical perspective about what was happening in America when this TV show ruled the airwaves. If you've watched the show - and it's been hard to miss for many decades - then this music bio/history will fill in the background. It's just not as well written, or richly nuanced, as it could have been. ![]() This Is Your Life Music Movers and Shakers - Bobby Darin and Dick Clark $12.99 Being a huge Bobby Darin fan, I was delighted to find this DVD. I remember this old show, but never saw the episode with Bobby on it. A must have for all Darin fans. ![]() Dick Clark's Best of Bandstand [VHS] $29.98 i was under the impression that this was a recording of the american band stand show, it is just excerpts from the show of the singers lipsinking songs they made famous, i was not impressed at all, i lived all those songs, and am of the age that i was a child when american bandstand first came on t,.v. and remember all the dancers and singers well, i am glad i didnt pay big bucks for this big disapointment. |
