As a practising geologist, I still find it a useful overview and for junior staff, I recommend it as the first point of reference. I strongly suggest this as a book to get if you haven't. Having said that, this is not a new 2007 Edition; the content page describes this as a 2007 Reissue by Waveland Press of the 1986 Publication. I compared it directly to a 1986 version we also have in the office, and its the same, except that the 2007 reissue is printed (digital?)copy of the original. I've seen this in another revised edition (Applied Geophysics, Telford). Its OK for B&W line drawings but like any scan or photocopy, photos come out all contrasty and photos of fine rock textures lose much of their detail. The hardback cover is good quality, the paper is OK, but I would much rather have bought a second hand copy of the 1986 hardback A for content, C for effort, B overall. ![]() No Deposit No Return [VHS] $9.99 Many reviewers have praised other movies starring Don Knotts. Somehow, this gem has been overlooked. Actually, this movie has all of the "elements" of a great Disney film: multi-layered conflicts, intertwined subplots, varying degrees of "bad" guys, clever script, well-developed and memorable characters, quality children actors, and situational comedy that keeps the laughs going. Early on, you'll crack up at the bungled burglary scene at the airport. This is where the two mildly "bad" guys (of which Don Knotts is one) cross paths with the two misfit children. My kids and I still imitate the way Don Knotts accidentally closes the safe before they remove the loot! Contrasted with all of that drama is the ever-snooty David Niven not quite sure that he wants to rescue his grandchildren from these criminals, at least not until school vacation is over! Of course, the little dears take matters into their own hands, in classic Disney style, including some great booby-traps! Most Disney films include an unusual animal pet. Here we have a skunk, who makes himself odious at just the right times! You'll get "more badder" gangsters who snap pencils in their fingers and dress in vintage era plaids. (That's enough to cause you to scream just having to look at those clothing styles!) But the best entertainment is how our beloved Don Knotts s-s-s-s-studddddders, especially when he gets afraid and jumpy. I love his deadpan imitation of the New Jersey fire engines. Have some fun watching this one! |
