![]() Dead Space $29.99 I really don't get people giving this game one star based on the copy protection. Its absurd. Anyway, if you like science fiction, if you like horror, and if you like first person shooters, then this game is incredible. As a previous reviewer said, playing this game really is like being in a scifi movie like an "Aliens" or something. It has a great story line that is actually compelling and you want to find out what happens next. Add in memorable characters, great voice work, amazing graphics and a superb atmosphere, it all means an awesome gaming experience. If this was a movie I would comment on the fantastic set design, the ship, the tech, the level design, all of it is believable and looks great. And yes, this game can be very scary at times! Due to the deliciously grotesque aliens and their way of charging you and popping up when you least expect them, there are many moments like this. But don't think this is just a standard shooter, no, it is the story that pulls you in to the game and makes it special. Of course nothing is perfect. I would say the game might be too long for its own good. Yes it sounds odd but the game should have been shorter and drags some at the end. Sometimes the game can feel lonely and you are basically wandering alone in many corridors, it would have been nice to have a few more survivors to interact with and more interaction also with your ship mates. The boss monsters sometimes are too hard and it get tedious trying to kill them, there are no cheats available so you have to defeat them without any help. But persevere and you will beat them in the end. Still, this is an outstanding game and highly recommended, especially to science fiction fans! ![]() Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Never Ending Sacrifice $7.99 This is the second book I have read by Una McCormack. First came, Hollow Men, which has tied with "I, Q" for the worst Star Trek novel I have ever read. It made such an impact on me, that I was very uncertain about reading The Never Ending Sacrifice, but being an avid DS9 fan, I went for it. The story was very slow to develop, and focused too much on minor details. Normally, attention to detail and the subtle weaving of Trek lore and episode references into a novel is a delight to all fans who read the novels but this time is just happened at the expense of the moving the story along and at least one reference (from the episode the plot is chiefly pulled) was wrong. Half way through the book I seriously considered taking it to the used book store and not even finishing. I did enjoy the relationship development between Rugal and Kotan, but there just wasn't enough and it was interrupted too many times by minutia and side-stories that neither advanced the plot nor developed the character of the hero. The entirely anticlimactic ending did not help things either. I have rarely felt like reading was a waste of time, but this book did it. I'm sure in real life the author is an intelligent, delightful person, but I'm afraid I can never bring myself to purchase another book by her again. ![]() Deep Space Vol. 1 $16.95 I love this CD very much. Perfect mixing, excellent selection, some great highs and lows, quite a dynamic set, Francois takes the listener on a deep space journey that is well worth embarking on. However it should be pointed out that this is NOT house, Body and Soul or Shelter type music. It is deep, deep and I mean DEEP dub, kind of like Lee Scratch Perry updated to the 21st century with a 4/4 beat, sequenced grooves and less vocals. There are several real stand out tracks esp. What Goes Around Comes Around by Mutabaruka and like I say, if you like dub you'll love this. If you dont like dub, you're probably going to hate it but then, what are you doing here anyway ? ![]() Deep Space $41.86 Deep Space gives huge, high resolution photographs of galaxies, nebula, and many other parts of the universe and explains their form and structure clearly and accurately. The latest science is covered, including the acceleration in expansion of the universe and the theoretical role of dark energy. This is science publishing at its best. The beauty of deep space structures is shown in such scale and color that anyone can be thrilled without the least understanding of what they are viewing. For those who want to learn about astronomy, the text is deep. Deep Space beats any book or TV documentary I have seen with its detail and beauty. It's worth every penny, but if you are lucky you might find it on the bargain table. |
