If this wasn't a true story, you would probably think it was far fetched. I think that's partially what makes it so good. The entire time you watch you just can't believe that this happened. A missing child, the wrong child returned home & forced on the single mother, a corrupt police force determined not to be embarrassed even at the expense of a child, nobody willing to listen, a mother labeled as crazy but still unwilling to give up & the ending that leaves you both horrified & amazed. Angelina Jolie delivers an emotional performance & I can't imagine anyone else playing the part. This is by far one of the best movies I have seen in some time.

This movie could have been so much better. I have no problem with the actors(I have a thing for Jennifer Garner, and I really like Kevin Smith, so I can't give an impartial evaluation of the actors.) or their characters. The photography was gorgeous.

UNFORTUNATELY I GOT MY HOPES UP.

Unfortunately, right after a good enough setup, the writer plops in an element that are so tired and hackneyed and obvious I immediately said to myself "oh no, they're not going to do THAT..." If you have seen more than a handful of films that do not star explosions or CGI, you not only see the ending coming, IT CAN BEE SEEN FROM SPACE. It completely stinks and ruined the film for me. The fact it happens in a bathroom is especially fitting.

I would like to think it is the kind of thing that would immediately lower your grade in a scriptwriting class.

What makes it all the worse is that there are couple of times during the film (predictably, right when I was about to turn it off) where it misleads you into thinking they are going to go somewhere more creative.

But no, they go there.

Live Comedy from the Laff House: Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart is one of the funniest and most charismatic comedians out there today, but you'll never get through this one because the audio quality is so subpar. It's almost like it was shot on somebody's VHS-C camcorder and released as an afterthought. It was filmed at the LAFF HOUSE in Philly, my hometown, so I'm reluctant to come off as a hater but save your money. But Kevin tells a lot of the same jokes on his Comedy Central special, which isn't yet on DVD (TiVo it). And he comes off much, much better on his GROWN LITTLE MAN DVD from Image.
