Mixed Anxiety and Depression: A Cognitive-Behavioral Approach (Individual Version)
Mixed Anxiety and Depression: A Cognitive-Behavioral Approach (Individual Version)

The presentation attempt to portray a therapeutic process, but actually shows a dogmatic (and a bit boring) version of CBT. There is little or no dealings with complexities and dilemmas which could enhance the viewer. The client is an actor, much of the sessions are described briefly verbally between sessions as opposed to showing what has been done. For anyone with an already basic acquaintance with CBT for panic and depression, IMHO there is little to be gained from this DVD.

I read almost all of the CognitiveDaily posts on my Kindle, and then I compared them to the original blog on the web. The Kindle version is pretty satisfactory, unless one decides to go through the whole archive. The reader needs to keep in mind that the Kindle version is designed to be read daily, not for lengthy research.

The crucial parts of the original posts are conserved. I assume someone who decides to subscribe to this blog would like to see the graphs and data that the author uses to support his/her views, which is successfully done on the Kindle version. The graphs and pictures are not perfect, but it shows everything one needs to see.

The quotes are formatted as blockquotes, which I think is great.

The bibliography is also included at the end of each post.

The reader is able to click on the linked text and visit the web-sites the text is linked to as well. However, it shoudl be remembered that the Kindle browser is not designed to browse webpages at full functionality.

Absolutely no ads!!!

Finally, reader comments for the posts are not included in the Kindle version.

Unlike the other review I just read -
This TEXTBOOK is clear, concise, and logically organized.

The book provides relevant, in-line definitions for all terms and concepts used. The book teaches you the concepts, principles, and methods of cognitive science, gently in an interesting way as you read the text. The author's writes in everyday language and creates his examples and situations in the "everyday" world to illustrate specific concepts and/or methods.

This is the best, most comprehesive, easy-to-understand, introductory overview of cognitive science I have ever read. All of this is packed into a slim, 5" by 8" volume consisting of 230 pages of text & exercises by a knowledgable author with great writing skills.

A great text from beginner to practioner.

You don't need a masters degree in some specific subject to understand what the author is presenting. This book applies the standards and elements of critical thinking unself-consciously and transparently. Every student should be required to read this text because it teaches critical thinking skills in both content AND message. Delightful!!

I have not (yet) read any of Paul Thagard's other textbooks but you can be SURE that I will.

I am reading this book for my CPPR class in graduate school. Before I started, I only knew the very basics of CBT, and have found this book to be written in an interesting and understandable way that is easy to follow. Beck provides lots of examples to help you understand every step of the process.

Highly recommend!
