![]() Icarly NIckelodean Chat'n Fashion Talking Interactive Playset Carly Freddie Doll Figures $37.98 First of all, this toy does not carry on a conversation between two action figures. Half of the time, you press the button and it just makes an electronic jingle noise. DO NOT BUY THIS TOY! Truly, it's a rip off. It doesn't work correctly and it's not just the one I bought. It's on sale for 24.99 at Toys R Us and I'm returning it tomorrow. My 6 year old daughter was so disappointed in this one. Complete waste of time and money. We scoured every aisle for the perfect toy for her to spend her money on. It has absolutely no 'fun' factor in it. If you want to blow your money on a useless piece of garbage, this is the one for you, insert sarcasm. Is says short abrubt words, and there is NO conversation factor to it whatsoever. Shame on the makers of this one. I feel sorry for the parents who buy this one for their child for Christmas, only to discover it is a worthless piece of junk. I'd give this one no stars if it was an option. BUYER BEWARE! ![]() Cute Crochet Chat $0.99 Discussion of all things related to crochet including crochet design, yarn, implements, and crochet patterns. Chat? As in online? Hmm.Frankly, I miss letters. A letter in my mailbox, especially with an exotic overseas stamp on it, with its lines of handwriting... loops and angles and curliques that give a reflection of personality and, perhaps, secrets tucked inside the letter-writer... opening the letter, reading, sipping coffee, reading it again... and that faraway place, even if only across town, evoked on the slip of paper... Opening my mailbox to find a letter always felt just a little like Christmas. Yes, there is a romance in writing and receiving letters that seems almost entirely lost to us now. Not to mention how our switch to email and instant messaging has created an entirely new kind of language - of shorthand, emoticons, graphics, poor or nonexistent grammar, missing punctuation, computer slang. The other side: email and instant messaging are quick and easy. I write more of these shorthand "letters" now than I ever did on paper. Granted, they are much shorter, and surely much blander, but the increased contact with colleagues eases the conducting of efficient business, and the increased communication with loved ones has drawn them nearer still. What would my work day be like without a message window popping up mid-afternoon with a little emoticon pursing big red lips with a "sweet sumthin" message attached, sent by the one I miss the most? Gets me through the day. Indeed, online chat can do wonders for any relationship. A little goes a long way.A little in this cybernovel, however, does not go as long a way as it could, or should. The idea is undeniably relevant to today, and it is intriguing. Online chat provides an anonymity that allows people to reveal more than they ever would F2F (face to face). It also allows temptation to overcome good sense, and the results can be devastating. The couple portrayed in this online exchange of messages seems drawn to each other too easily, too predictably, and without enough explanation as to why. I'm just not convinced that a few dull exchanges can create such havoc. That they meet unknowingly in "real time" seems completely implausible. The whole exchange takes less than an hour to read, which would classify it more as a novelette than a novel, but it is probably an hour better spent. I'm using my hour to write a letter. ![]() Le Pas Du Chat Noir $17.98 Le Pas Du Chat Noir may not have the unstoppable energy and fast-paced interactions between oudh, piano and accordeon of the more recent CD Sahar, but it is still a beautiful and accomplished musical creation. The tone is set more by the piano and the mood is more introspective though as it develops the oudh and accordeon add their distinctive colour to the whole. It is delightfully satisfying music repaying close listening while also being perfect as more of a background to living. I mainly listen to classical music - Bach, Debussy, classical guitar, piano and chamber music by all sorts of composers from Scarlatti and Bach to Arvo Part and Messaien - but I find Anouar Brahem's music works powerfully for me. One aspect of what I like so much both about this CD and Anouar Brahem's Sahar is the quality of sound he gets from the oudh - it has the clarity and poignancy of good classical guitar playing but seems capable of an even deeper, more soulful sound. If you like classical Indian music, classical guitar or more restful music, I would really strongly recommend both Sahar and Le Pas du Chat Noir. |
