Big Results., Book 1) $9.50 WOW! Mary Jane McKittrick deserves a standing ovation for creating something very special with "Boomer and Halley - Scavenger Hunt." Her concept of having animals teach children life values and life lessons in her book truly deserves to be applauded. This book is an awesome teaching tool for parents, grandparents and teachers, as well as others who influence and interact with children. Mary Jane has demonstrated a tremendous imagination, especially with the PAWS approach introduced in this book. In addition, the illustrations by Bob Ostrom add great support and value to the story and its lessons and values being taught. I highly recommend this book as a teaching tool and as a "must have" and "must read" in your family library collection of books. This book truly presents Little Lessons that will achieve Big Results. This movie enraptures you because it is full of suspense, sexuality, and heavy dramatic themes. The prototypical boy meets girl love story travels to the twilight zone for something quite different, but refreshingly good: Oliver and Irena meet at the zoo, and there is an instant spark. A quick romance turns into a marriage proposal, but something is definitely off when on their wedding night, Irena tells Oliver she cannot consummate their marriage. Sexual tension, emotions, and some pretty disturbing behavior make this movie even more fascinating as another woman, Alice, Oliver's work associate enters the mix to further stir the pot. Nothing like jealousy to make a frigid woman loose it! Two great scenes of tension and fear have become my favorite cinematic stalking (or predator/prey scenes) scenes ever. Simone Simon is breattaking and inspired in her role of Irena (she says on the commentary track that she felt she was Irena, a little spooky, but you can tell in the film), while Kent Smith and Jane Randolph are comfortable in their roles as well. Tom Conway, George Sands's brother, was decadently sinister as Dr. Louis Judd. A beautiful score and cinematography make this delicious B movie so much more. Definitely worth your time and money. The Curse of the Cat People has little to do with Cat People. In an odd turn, all the actors come back to portray their old characters, but a few years later. Yet, the story is so different and removed with the intrigue and suspense of Cat People I am confused on how it is a sequel. I found the film disappointing because it was not truly a sequel. It was a nice film examining the "fragility of childhood," but not what I wanted or expected. The tension, sexuality, mystery, and animal magnetism that I devoured in Cat People is no where in sight. Watch it as something almost entirely different to truly appreciate it. A small note about the DVD: the special feature of each film is a running commentary, which I thought was insightful for Cat People. My disappointment with The Curse of the Cat People kept me from watching/listening. |
