The cowgirl photos inside are more Classy than a JCPenny catalog. Wish I had hair like that.
This is an album of wonderful Mex tunes that capture the spirit of the expansive horizon down south.
In executing these songs, Jara shows great poise. Sometimes she sounds Chinese. There are other interesting surprises. To my ear, the tunes are reminiscent of other genres such as Ravel.
Even though this music is not hard-driving, it's not shallow either. Try Song Number 8 Quita el Sombrero. The orchestra is in good syncopation with Jara.
On Songs 2 and 8 [Estuve a Punto and Quita el Sombrero] she partners with another singer. The album is in Spanish and doesn't appear to say anything about who that is. Jara tries some silly stuff on Song 2. If you don't like it, examine it in its cozy context.
I'm mesmerized by her flawless tongue-twisters. She's got the voice of a kitten, but no lack of skill or control.
If you're looking for something to clean your ears out, play this.
Well worth it.
