Mean Creek [VHS]
Mean Creek [VHS]

$29.98
Following some background on the characters and the reason why retaliation is deemed necessary, the kids begin to get into the boat with the goal of teaching one kid a lesson or two. I turned the movie off at this point and returned it to the store. The prospect of watching children act out the expected physical and emotional violence was more than I was willing to pay to see. If the movie actually has some redeeming features I hope someone will share them in another review.

Like I mentioned in my Frantic review, Firewall I bought with Frantic as a bonus DVD Wal-Mart exclusive. I am here to explain why threw out Firewall and kept Frantic. Simply put, we have seen this cliche already with Ford as some sort of common man who for some reason knows how to fight like a marine.

Harrison Ford stars as Jack Stanfield, a security expert at a bank who's family is held hostage by Brian Cox (Paul Bettany). Cox needs to recoup his gambling losses so he forces Stanfield to rob the bank he works at.

Nothing in this film is really worth mentioning. There is some tension in the fact that Cox holds the family hostage while Stanfield is at work but like I said, we have seen this film before. You can call it Air Force One, Patriot Games, or The Fugitive. It's same old story with the same old sour puss Ford having a job that dosen't suggest remotely that he shouldn't have the fighting skills of an marine and yet he kicks [...] and take numbers. Take for example the fight at the end of the film. Ford is merely suppose to be security expert at a bank he gets into a very intense fight with a man old enough to be his son. He predictably wins and walks away with his bland family, dog and all, with a beautiful rainbow in the sky. *gag*

If you have never seen any Ford film during the 90's, you'll enjoy this. If so, get Frantic because it actually appeals to an audience with a brain.
Growing Up Brady
Growing Up Brady

$19.99
This story of the making of The Brady Bunch is great fun for fans. It starts with the auditions, then the famous wedding/pilot show ("Tiger!!"), and goes through all five seasons with the kids growing up and becoming stars.

Barry Williams' memoir inspired this 2000 TV-movie, so it's no surprise that his alter-ego is the heartthrob and star of the show; his amorous longings for screen-sister Maureen McCormick play heavily in the script as does Robert Reed's distaste for the low comedy.

Young Barry is played by pre-O.C. Adam Brody who is utterly charming and the only one of the actors who even remotely resembles their famous counterpart. Williams narrates the story and he and producer Sherwood Schwartz appear briefly. The movie is all sugar and spice, a sweet and innocent rememberance of a much-loved TV series. Fans of the show will love it.
