![]() If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor $14.95 I, as I'm sure any and all who purchase this book is, am a great Bruce Campbell fan. I don't belong to the deadites, nor to the Xena/Hercules fans; I just think he's funny. This book is, as one would expect, also very amusing. It is not laugh out loud funny, nor should it be, but there are quite a few amusing anecdotes and the way in which Campbell writes is in itself quite clever and witty. The reader gets to know not a few things about independent filmmaking, and indeed big budget filmmaking as seen from the less than spectacularly glamourous aspect of a star director or leading actor/actress. I was all caught up in the spirit of the indie-film after reading this book, and was actually ready to go ahead and try to produce a flick of my own. I guess this book is just about what you'd expect it to be. It has that certain Bruce Campbellishness that makes it just so good. I will, however, join those who say, that there is a certain lack of depth in some parts of the book. That doesn't really subtract that much, though. It is still clever and well written. Any Bruce Campbell fan will like this, I should think. ![]() Man with the Screaming Brain/Alien Apocalypse (Bruce Campbell 2 pack) $14.98 Man with the Screaming Brain is a story of greed, betrayal and revenge in the big, bad city. William Cole, wealthy industrialist, winds up with part of his brain replaced by that of Yegor, a Bulgarian street hustler. The two couldn't be more different, but they share one thing - both were killed by the same woman. Brought back to life by a mad scientist, William and Yegor form an unlikely partnership to track down their common nemesis . Alien Apocalypse follows astronaut Dr. Ivan Hood (Bruce Campbell) and his fellow astronaut Kelly (Renee O'Connor) as they return from their mission in space to find the world has been taken over by aliens. Now Dr. Hood and Kelly must lead a revolution to free the human slaves from their alien masters ![]() Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat $19.98 I bought this movie because it starred Bruce Campbell, David Caradine, and was directed by the guy who did Waxworks. By the time it arrived, my expectations for it far exceeded anything anyone could have reasonably have expected from a movie made by mere mortals. (For a over a week "Bruce Campbell, David Caradine, Anthony Hickox" bounced around my brain along with "vampires in the old west". By the time the movie showed up, the thought had become "BRUCE CAMPBELL! DAVID CARADINE! ANTHONY HICKOX! VAMPIRES IN THE OLD WEST!") I had a small misconception as to the plot, but I won't go into that. I watched it; it didn't stink and didn't wow me. The first half of the movie grated on my nerves, but by the time the actual showdown started I found myself enjoying it. Nobody would call it the crew's finest moment, but by the time credits rolled, the movie's cheezy-ness had oozed over me like a warm bath of silky Velveeta. the plots are wildly different, but it gave me the same sort of feeling Monster Squad did after I saw it for the first time in near 20 years. (Except, unlike Monster Squad, I had never seen Sundown.) My best call on this one is that if you liked Wax Works, Monster Squad, and those other early-80s inoffensive horror/comedies, you could do worse than giving this one a shot. It isn't a lost masterpiece, but I still don't regret owning it. ![]() Alien Apocalypse $9.98 The acting is terrible. The effects are cheap. The plot is weak. The dialog is goofy. But so what! Its great fun to watch. Bruce Campbell battles nine foot tall bugs and kills them all. Great campy fun. I enjoyed it all. |
