I LOVE soundtracks ...
I love the variety of the songs and the artists.
I love that the music reminds me of the movie(s).

I love getting ALL THE SONGS IN THE MOVIE ... wait, that doesn't actually happen.

Such is the case with this soundtrack.

Now, granted, I know it's gotta be a difficult job getting all the permissions of the artists to put the songs on the soundtrack but ... COME ON!!!! I mean, really, the artists DO get "royalties" for each and every CD purchased - why deny us?

How can Queen's "Flash Gordon" NOT be on this?!?! It was the music to THE pivotal scene in the movie!!

The song Jimmy skated to in the beginning ... "Time To Say Goodbye" by Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli ... WHY is it NOT on here?!?

The song Jimmy and Chaz skated to in their first performance together ... Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" ... missing.

Bo Bice does a FANTASTIC job singing the theme song, so at least there's that.

However, it truly is the MISSING music that bums me out and THAT is why I give it (4) stars and not (5).

As a sports fan I found Blades of Glory to be a great story of a team's journey toward fullfillment of a life long dream. Rosengren does an outstanding job of highliting the ups and downs of high school athletics and the culture of youth/hs hockey. Additionally, the historical aspects of the book made me more appreciative of past programs and the role the sport plays in the hearts and minds of Minnesota residents.
However, as a high school coach, what I found even more valuable were the qualities and characteristics needed to build and maintain a successful program. Rosengren's brings to life a number of ethical questions that coaches face concerning winning, loyalty, and relationships making this a must read for anyone interested in coaching.
