![]() Kids Are Americans Too $14.95 Thank goodness I found this book at Goodwill and paid only a dollar; I will be re-donating it shortly. I'm very interested in our founding documents and how to teach children about them, which is why I picked up the book. I read it in about an hour, as the book's 160 pages with large print aren't exactly content heavy. No, this book falls under the "fluff" category. O'Reilly is condescending, glosses over the cases he uses as examples (and doesn't relate the cases to particular rights or amendments), and has no references to getting more info about subjects or cases mentioned (except to direct readers to HIS website.) The end of the book is sorely missing what one would expect from this genre: there is no index, no recommending reading, and no works cited. The book doesn't even list the Bill of Rights specifically until the very end! If you want a book that explains the Bill of Rights to children, buy "A Kids' Guide to America's Bill of Rights: Curfews, Censorship, and the 100-Pound Giant" by Kathleen Krull. It presents the Bill of Rights at the very beginning, very specifically talks about what each amendment means, and discusses related court cases as they pertain to each amendment. Krull's book additionally doesn't dumb down the message, nor does she talk down to children as if they were naughty morons, as O'Reilly does. Krull's book shines where O'Reilly's book fails miserably. ![]() Sweet Jesus, I Hate Bill O'Reilly $14.00 While I admittedly fall slight right in the idealogical world, I also have a sense of humor and enjoy poking fun at people who take themselves too seriously. Thus I read this book. I've never been a fan of Bill O's style, but do respect his ability to bring issues of the day into living room's across America, in a way that at least tries to be moderate and balanced. 1. Humorless. But then again, never a big strong point of the left. They TRY to be funny to mask their biterness and hatred of average american joes, but it never works. 2. Factless. As factless as the authors claim Bill O. to be. My advice: instead of wasting money and time on this book, try visually analyzing TP after it's concluded its course through your nether region. There you will find much more humor and factual substance. ![]() A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity $26.00 I was hooked when I picked up this book. It is an resolute must read. Don't bother listening to those lefties that make a living out of bashing anyone that doesn't think like them. I enjoyed reading through Bill's life stories, many of which have life lessons in them that have proved to help me in my own life. I don't agree on every front with Bill, but he can write a great book. ![]() The O'Reilly Factor for Kids: A Survival Guide for America's Families $13.95 Yesterday's kids - many came from a "single-parent home." Today's Kids - more and more kids today live in a "no-parent home." A Kid's Life for too many today - invisible dad who only occaisionally sees the child, if at all, and busy mom who is busy with her own social agenda. Even in homes where mom tries her best to be both parents, many only see their children limitedly - after work - for dinner, baths, and then it's bedtime. And sad to say, that's a better situation than many kids have. Kids are influenced more by peers today than in any other period in history. Add to that the influence of music lyrics, television, and the like... Kids need solid advice that will still make sense to kids of today. Every source of good advice, and good sense for living, adds to the positive influence kids need. One consideration: kids whose parent (or other caring person) buys this book have most likely been taught good advice already, and this book will reinforce those principles. A bit over-priced at $8.76 for Kindle, though... Thumbs up on the principles taught in this book AND the ability to "hear" it with the Text-to-Speech on Kindle. |
