Weeds - Season Four

Season's 1, 2, and definitely 3 were quite a bit better than the season 4 of Weeds. It moves away from the suburban life that we've grown to love and into a darker more drug realistic lifestyle. This show isn't trying to glamorize the drug industry anymore... at least not in this season.

I love this series. I do not get Showtime and buy the season DVD every year, and watch it within a week! Then I pass it to friends who love it just as much. It has everything a good story needs...Politics, love, sex, great actors, costumes, etc.

This review has nothing to do with the quality of the show itself, but with the particular product for which i see no reason of existence, unless the price drops dramaticaly. The rules of the free market along with common sense have been thrown in the garbage, in the hope that the buyers are careless enough to not notice the outrageous pricing ? Why should anyone pay $82 for the first 2 seasons when each one is sold seperately for $24.49, is really, really beyond me...This is not a blu ray version or an improved edition from what i can tell, unless i am missing something. So what is the reason for such a vast difference? Is it that the discs are offered in a double case that takes less space on the bookshelve than the two single ones and therefor you may save a few centimeters which justifies paying nearly double? Not even that...Judging from the pictures, you are buying the identical two single cased seasons. The only difference is that you pay much more... Pure lunacy...Just do the math and stay away from this one!

Big Love continues to be one of the best shows ever and centers on the Hendrickson's, an American as apple pie family with a twist; they live a polygamous life style. The three wives and all their assorted children live in side by side homes with connected backyards, all "married" to Bill a successful businesman. We also spend time with the less monied, totally secluded compound dwellers led by Roman Grant the reigning prophet of the church (and also the father of Nikki, one of Bill's three wives. Oh, did I tell you that Bill and Roman are arch enemies?). It's interesting to see the Hendricksons, the compound dwellers and mainstream Mormons all holding pieces of the truth and sharing a history yet are so different. Or are they?

This show presents so many moral, ethical, religious and legal questions and it's quite entertaining as well as being thought provoking. Before this show, I thought all polygamists were Elizabeth Smart snatching sickos, 16 year old girls who are on their 4th child married to a 50 year old man with 10 other wives, or Warren Jeff power hungry nut jobs who destroy the lives of so many.

Yes, this show is a soap opera but it's so much more with well written dialogue and yes, humor. We're not asked to live like the Hendrickson's but to try and understand their struggles to exist.
