Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney Starter

Pros: Good heat shield to protect hands, sturdy handle and lifting bar, decently designed charcoal grate, heavy duty compared to others for the price, large capacity. Overall - excellent.
Cons: The starter would be easier to lift if the handle was angled about 25 degrees, like a pistol grip. (Webber - take note!)
Notes: I have owned at least half a dozen charcoal starters during the past 15 years. This is one of the best. Sheet metal is about 1/32-in. thick which is thick enough. Very sturdy handle and lifting bar. You will need the lifting bar. Fully loaded, the starter holds more than a gallon of charcoal. The charcoal grate is heavier than the grates on other starters I have owned. In my experience, the grate burns out first. So, this starter should last longer than others.

I've had 2 Webers over the last 20 something years and there is nothing I haven't been able to cook. A large turkey stuffed takes less than 3 hours. The One-Touch vent control on the bottom makes it easy to fine tune the cooking temperature along with the vent on the cover. The One-Touch lever also makes it very convenient to remove the ashes in the bottom of the kettle. I like this Weber so much I bought one along with a hinged grate as a gift for my brother this summer. I've never owned a gas bbq and at this point I don't see a reason to.

BBQ, for afficianados, isn't just one thing. Different parts of the country have completely different definitions of what is "barbecue" -- from the tomato-based sauces of spicy Kansas City ribs to the vinegar-laden smokehouse pork of eastern North Carolina.

This book is a comprehensive look at what barbecue means to the different regions and styles, and includes some fabulously tasty recipes for each so that you can recreate it at home without having to travel to experience it. The survey of the culture surrounding barbecue is also fun to read, and if you're trivia-minded, it's great for filling the bank of tidbits to throw out the next time someone throws something on the grill.

Very worth a look if you're a carnivore. :)
