Sasquatch

After reading all the horribly negative reviews for this film, I was hesitant to invest any money into it even though I've been a huge sasquatch movie buff for over 35 years. Last night I found a previously-viewed copy at my local Hastings for almost nothing and decided to bite the bullet and give it a chance. I'm glad I did.
The plot, as others have pointed out, revolves around a wealthy businessman (played wonderfully and stoically by Lance Henriksen) and his team searching an area of the Pacific Northwest for his daughter after the company plane she was on went down. During the course of their search they realize they're being tracked by something in the woods. As the plot unfolds, we discover why. We also discover there is more to Henriksen's motives than just his daughter's welfare, as well as the motives of a couple of other characters ....
The acting is not bad. I've never seen Lance Henriksen turn in a bad performance in anything, and this movie is no exception. Some reviewers have said he looks like he'd rather be somewhere else than in this movie. Personally, I don't see that. I see him portraying his role exactly the way it should be done - a man (a widower at that) who has detached himself from his emotions and has immersed himself into his business to survive. Unfortunately along the way he has distanced himself from his daughter as well; though the character shows very little outward emotion you can see it in his eyes, his face ... you can almost feel what is going on in his head that he refuses to outwardly express. There are accusations thrown at him during the course of the trek, and you can almost see him asking himself, "Are they right?" The rest of the cast does very well also; I especially liked Jeremy Radick as Plazz, the group's computer whiz/cryptozoological enthusiast.
My one complaint about the film is the design of the creature itself. Frankly, it's terrible. Imagine a black-skinned version of Swamp Thing with random patches of hair on the lower legs, back of the torso and arms, and other parts of the body, and you've got it. However, there is no hair on the head at all, and the head is very round; a sagittal crest is totally non-existent. If the creature had been designed according to the thousands of eye-witness reports of sasquatch, this film would have just about been perfect for the genre.
All in all, I found this a very enjoyable little movie. However, the lack of a good monster equaled the lack of a five-star rating.

This was a wonderful romance movie. Love to see Rick Springfield in a variety of roles. I recommend it for anyone who is a Rick fan.

Long ago, the Warlords seized power over my world. A resistance army banded together to fight the oppressors. Though it was a battle we could not win, we survived and continued to resist the occupation.

The Warlords then turned their attention to other worlds, other dimensions to conquer.

As with most myths best described by Joseph Campbell this is a modern-day (Los Angeles 1996) coming of age story for Joe Talbot (Josh Charles) as he must prove himself. He is lured by Laura (Andrea Roth) and mentored by the independent renegade A.T. (Rutger Hauer.) Can he overcome not being ready and fulfill his purpose to same our would and free there. Or was his mother right in not telling him until/or if he was ready for the journey?

We journey with Joe thorough the many world some time kibitzing hopefully growing along with him and his new friends.

The special effects do no overwhelm the story and the action is also proportional to the story.
