![]() The Religion of the Ancient Celts $26.99 Originally published in 1911 MacCulloch uses various texts as a source to piece this tome on the religion of the pre-Christian Celts together. Overall a good work, especially when you consider this was written before most, if not all, of the major archaeological finds that gave great insight into the ancient Celts. I love reading historical books that were published in the 1800's and early 1900's because the authors are not chained by political correctness and were often willing to think outside the box instead of toeing the line of mainstream academia. ![]() Ancient Noels $14.99 What a delightful change from the wonderful but typical Christmas tunes we hear over and over again. This beautiful music takes one back, way back... imagine a banquet hall in a medieval castle, tapestries on the walls and damsels in the halls, a bowl of wassail and a pig roasting in the huge stone fireplace. Well, that's where the music takes my vivid imagination anyway! I love it, beautifully done. ![]() Lot of 10 - Uncleaned Ancient Roman Coins $22.95 I ordered these on a lark. I thought it would be neat to clean these old (really, really old) coins and watch history unfold before me. It was fun, but out of the 10 coins, only 2 had anything remotely recognizable once all the dirt and corrosion was removed. I'm not giving up however, I'm going to try a batch of "unsearched" coins and see if I have any better luck. It is interesting and fun to do, so if you're looking for something to fill a little time, I'd recommend this. You may also want to look into the kit they offer which has instructions for coin cleaning etc. ![]() Leviathan: An Event Group Thriller (Event Group Thrillers) $24.99 David Golemon's 4th EVENT novel is our 2nd best of the series thus far, with the 2nd - LEGEND - still being our top novel thus far. But we liked his last novel - Ancients - unlike alot of other fan reviewers, but Leviathan does manage to rise above his last book because Golemon returns with multiple mythical concepts here and manages to do what he does best - mesh them all together with a super-charged, suspenseful, action-packed novel chock-full of interesting up-to-date resurrections of such classics from Jules Verne's Captain Nemo to Dumont's Count of Monte Cristo. And of course another reason for us liking this latest novel more than the last is the return of the colorful and cool French spymaster, Farbeaux, the Event group's nemesis. Golemon deftly weaves another wonderful and exciting tale here, starting out as he always does, in the distant past, then bringing the reader to the present, showing how the events of the past changes the future - for a rollercoaster ride on land, air, and the deepest seas, replete with spices of sci-fi that make the reader turn the pages until the late hours of the night. If you haven't discovered this solid writer yet, do yourself a favor and do so. |
