Who Was Amelia Earhart? (Who Was...?)

Who Was, is a great concept. I enjoyed reading the book on Amelia Earhart and strongly suggest it to not only the age suggested on the book cover but to everyone. It is a fast read for an adult, but summarizes her life without going into great detail on each accomplishment. Sometimes I find adult books go on and on in great detail just to fill pages. I recommend this (and all Who Was books) to everyone!

Susan Butler has given us ten years of her life by sharing the story of our Kansas daughter, Amelia Earhart in East to the Dawn. This is a very generous gift! I was moved by her portrayal of Amelia and have come to view her as a charming person, a wonderful model, and an amazing heroine. It would have been a great pleasure to have met her in person but as that is not possible, Ms. Butler's book is the next best thing.
Looking forward to Susan's next book.

Breathe the Sky: A Novel Inspired by the Life of Amelia Earhart

I have long been a fan of Amelia Earhart and her achievements, and how she made a space for women where there really hadn't been one before; so when I got a chance to read this book I was very happy. Like many others I'm sure the story in this book took me further into Amelia's life and gave me an ending that was inspiring, just like all her other achievements.

The way it was written gave new insights into Amelia's character and how she lived and breathed - in the sky, and under it. Once I started reading I couldn't stop and I finished the book in two sittings, stopped only by the need to sleep. I don't want to talk too much about what I learned because I think everyone should read this book and discover their own insights and have the enjoyment of reading a fresh take on a life that you might think you know.

From the first page to the last it kept me reading, so I strongly recommend you do the same. You have much enjoyment ahead of you.

East to the Dawn is a superbly-written biography of Amelia Earhart by Susan Butler. This is a must-read for all seeking an in-depth view of the woman whose irrepressible spirit took her places where no man or woman had gone before. Amelia's life with her partner and husband, George Putnam, amidst her high profile career, is the basis of the new motion picture, "Amelia," starring Hilary Swank. As one of the producers of this film, I can attest to the significance of East to the Dawn, as a key source for the film. Butler's research reveals a fascinating relationship between Earhart and Gene Vidal (the father of Gore). As the daughter of an aviatrix, Susan Butler provides keen insights into what drives a woman to question the status quo and take risks beyond daredevil proportion. We also learn how Amelia impacted the world and why she remains an indelible legend and icon today.
