nVidia GeForce 3D Vision Kit
nVidia GeForce 3D Vision Kit

$199.96
I'll try to be brief, as to not simply reiterate too much of the other reviewers.

1) These nVidia glasses work very well, and the glasses have wider field of view than the eDimensions 3D glasses (which I bought 2 years ago). The 3D effect is fully adjustable in the two key dimensions: separation (amount of 3D effect) and convergence (how far away the objects appear). Having a 60 Hz refresh rate for each eye is critical; my eDimension glasses with an older 60 Hz LCD monitor could only give 30 Hz per eye and lots of flicker. I haven't tried the eDimension with the new 120 Hz monitor.

2) My computer set up is not excessive, but not wimpy either: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz; nVidia 8800GTS; 2 Gb DDR2-800 RAM; ViewSonic VX2265wm 120Hz LCD monitor; Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. This is about the bare minimum set up for good 3D.

3) Make sure you uninstall your current GeForce drivers before loading the new GeForce + 3D Vision drivers (collectively downloadable as the "Full Driver CD" from nVidia's website). I had mismatched drivers at first (from Windows 7), and got excessive ghosting and got the right-eye signal going to the left eye. Reinstalling with fresh drivers from nVidia solved the problem. Now I have no ghosting, no flicker, great 3D effect.

4) I've only tested one game so far, World of Warcraft, which looks beautiful. There's a setting in WoW to allow the cursor to adjust its depth to match the interacting object - nice! Takes 15-30 minutes to get used to, but then it's fantastic. Setting the convergence (or "screen depth") to a low value makes the objects appear far away and is easier on the eyes.

5) Caveats: (a) you need Windows Vista or 7; XP will not work. (b) There are only two LCD monitors at the moment that offer true 120 Hz refresh rates: ViewSonic VX2265wm FuHzion 3D/120Hz LCD Display (Black) and Samsung Syncmaster 2233RZ 22" 3D Gaming LCD Monito; many LCD TVs claim 120 Hz, but this is upscaled, and none currently take 120 Hz input; some DLP TVs will work - check nVidia's website.

Coraline: 7 out of 10: Whom is this movie for is a question that dashed through my mind while watching it. It is too scary and adult for most children. The film is full of High Octane Nightmare Fuel and retired adult entertainment stars with naked elderly puppet breasts... come to think of it that is High Octane Nightmare Fuel as well.

As for the adults in the audience, I fear that in my case the film was too distant. I never felt emotionally attached to our plucky protagonist. In part because she is not a very nice girl (nor terribly plucky now I think about it) and partially because the film seemed to place her and her predicament at a distance.

On the other hand, I was floored by the sheer artistry of the film. Visually this is simply one of the most stunning films I have ever seen. Director Henry Selick who helmed such stop motion masterpieces as James and the Giant Peach and The Nightmare Before Christmas has taken his art to a new level. Words simply cannot describe the visual delights that lie inside Coraline.

While I found the story somewhat distancing I also recognize the depth of the tale. Coralines two universes mirror each other in a complicated web rather than a simply black and white as one might expect. The ocean here may not be that wide but it is amazingly deep. To bad the water was a little cold for this swimmer.

This movie isn't too bad. It has some of the same old slasher stuff you expect, but the ending isn't quite what you would expect. The 3D works really well. I have a 56" HDTV on a PS3- It was unreal. I don't know what some other people are talking about. It could be they didn't have it set up for 3D or their expectations are unreal. This is the kind of Blu-Ray you will actually get some use out of - Cool one to show off- also comes with 4 decent quality glasses.

This movie is a hit and will become a classic to future generations. Well done to those that teamed-up to make it. HOWEVER: the 3-D version does not work. We waited for days after purchasing this version to see it on thanksgiving day as a family. What a disappointment! My husband and I got an instant headache just by watching it for a few minutes with the 3-D glasses on. We tried the blue ray dvd player and even real 3-D glasses from the theater... nothing worked. To their credit, a few scenes were OK, (we skipped the movie to the most visually stimulating scenes), but generally speaking is not worth to hurt your family's eyes when the original version is almost 3-D by itself! I very rarely review an item online, but once cd's or dvd's are opened they are not exchangeable (unless is the same item),or allowed for returns. I hope this info is useful.
