 Under the Dome: A Novel $35.00 I've been a rabid King fan since I happened to pick a paperback called "Salem's Lot" off the shelf in a vacation house more than thirty years ago, and I've read most, if not all, of King's works with avidity and huge enjoyment. For me, this is his best work since "The Stand," and I say that as someone who has worn out three copies of that book, two of which were the unabridged version. "Under the Dome" is terrific in large part because the supernatural element here is almost a sidebar; the real evil is what human beings will do to each other under stress. As someone who has lived in a small, very conservative Maine town for the last eight years, King's characters and their behaviors ring frighteningly true. I read the entire book in two days, and plan to read it again before I (begrudgingly) turn it over to my husband. In a word: outstanding. Bravo! About 1/2 in square space for the photos. It's really very pretty. The only trouble is printing pictures that small, but you'll have that trouble with any locket. And there's plastic to cover the pictures which makes a good template. It was a little tricky to get the plastic in and out, but worth it in the end. I recommend using an x-acto knife to cut the pictures out. |
